'Not surprising': Troy Deeney now sees why Liverpool want £50m Premeir League ace after 'exceptional' performance

Liverpool are cruising in the Premier League, with results this weekend taking the Reds 15 points clear at the top of the table.

A 3-1 victory against Southampton at Anfield coupled with Arsenal dropping more points away to Manchester United means Liverpool are just five wins and a draw away from their final ten Premier League games from the title, five years after winning their last English championship.

As a result of the Merseyside giant’s overwhelming lead in the Premier League, transfer rumours ahead of the summer have come to the forefront earlier than usual for the Reds, with Liverpool looking to strengthen at least five positions in the off-season.

And Troy Deeney has now highlighted why Liverpool are interested in one Premier League star after their performance over the weekend.

Writing for BBC Sport, the former Watford captain lauded AFC Bournemouth defender Milos Kerkez as ‘one of the best’ fullbacks in the world after the Hungary international’s performance against Tottenham on Sunday.

Kerkez has been strongly linked with Liverpool in recent weeks with reports suggesting that Bournemouth are open to selling the former AZ Alkmaar star this summer if a bid worth £50m is made for the youngster.

And Deeney has now shared why he’s not surprised Liverpool are linked with Kerkez, who on Sunday delivered one of the assists of the season in Bournemouth’s 2-2 draw against Tottenham in north London.

Deeney wrote about Kerkez’s performance: “For me he is one of the best left-backs in world football already. He is exceptional with the ball and without it, runs all day and has loads of room to grow. It is not surprising that Liverpool have been linked to him.”

Milos Kerkez is proving himself as Liverpool’s dream defensive target

The left-back position is set to undergo the most changes in the summer, with Jamie Carragher keen to see Andy Robertson and Kostas Tsimikas replaced at the end of this season with a new face brought in via the market.

And Kerkez is proving himself on a weekly basis why Liverpool need to move fast to secure the Bournemouth defender’s services in the summer, with interest starting to build in the 21-year-old Serbian-born fullback.

Indeed, Kerkez is easily the best young fullback in the Premier League this season and is a player who could star for a top side in the division for years to come, and Liverpool need to ensure they win the race for the Hungarian international before a rival side beats them to the punch.
