Everton have made a number of transfer blunders over the last 10 years or so.
Everton’s recruitment has been really hit and miss in recent times, with many of their most expensive recruits all flopping.
Moise Kean is indeed a notable example, however, he’s now flourishing away from Goodison Park at Fiorentina.
Davy Klassen, who cost around £23m, is another big-money signing that’s failed to make an impact on Merseyside.
However, some of Everton’s worst mistakes have actually been in deciding against a number of signings, like Callum Hudson-Odoi.
The Toffees could’ve signed Hudson-Odoi for just £8m in 2023 and now he’s worth around £40m at Nottingham Forest.
There’s an even worse transfer blunder than that, as they could’ve signed a now world class player in 2015.

Everton deemed Virgil van Dijk too expensive in 2015
According to the Celtic Star, Everton deemed Virgil van Dijk as too expensive back in 2015.
MORE EVERTON STORIES
The Toffees decided against signing Van Dijk for just £10m and instead spent £9.5m on Ramiro Funes Mori.
The towering Dutch defender ended up joining Southampton that summer, where he established himself as one of the best in the Premier League.
Van Dijk then completed a record-breaking £75m switch to Liverpool in 2018 and now he’s considered world class and perhaps the best centre-back on the planet.
The Liverpool captain is leading Arne Slot’s men to the Premier League title this term as they sit 15 points clear of second-placed Arsenal.
Ramiro Funes Mori ended up being pretty underwhelming
Everton went for Funes Mori over Van Dijk and it certainly backfired.
The Argentinian defender only lasted three years on Merseyside and wasn’t at all convincing in his 67 appearances.
Mori, now aged 34, plies his trade back in his native country with Club Estudiantes de La Plata, who are fourth in the top flight.
A real transfer blunder by Everton.
