The Miami Dolphins have signed Pittsburgh Steelers offensive guard James Daniels to a three-year, $24 million contract. Daniels is coming off a torn Achilles which likely depressed his market, but it is still a strong offering for a player who was playing some of his best football before he got injured.
Daniels, who the team signed as a free agent in 2022, played out the entirety of his contract, starting the majority of games for his first two seasons. However, the torn Achilles ended his Steelers career early, having him just play four games in 2024.
Too many teams needed help along the offensive line, especially their interior, so even with the injury, Daniels had a healthy market and did not even have to wait one day to land a deal with a new team.
The Dolphins run a wide zone scheme, an ideal fit for someone with Daniels' athleticism and ability to work in space. He should fit well in Mike McDaniel’s scheme as a low-risk, high-upside option at that price tag.
