Report: Guardiola is now ready to cash in on £45m Man City star this summer, it's been a…

Manchester City’s summer exodus looks to be well underway, even before the summer transfer window has even opened for business.

Manchester City and Pep Guardiola may be counting down the days until the summer transfer window opens for business for clubs in England, on June 11th.

There’s already a growing list of players either reported to be on their way out, or highly expected to be on the move, following what’s been a disastrous 2024/25 season for the Cityzens.

Recent reports have revealed that Man City will sell John Stones in the summer. There’s also heavy speculation that Kevin De Bruyne will be leaving after what’s been a difficult campaign for the 33-year-old.

On the flip side of that, Guardiola is being linked with several potential new signings, all of whom would bring the average age of the squad down and add some much-needed fresh legs to the team.

Real Madrid’s Eduardo Camavinga is a target for Manchester City in a link that might suggest the type of player City want to sign in the upcoming summer transfer window.

Kalvin Phillips tipped to leave Man City and seal Leeds United return

One forgotten name at Manchester City is Kalvin Phillips. Guardiola brought Phillips to the Etihad in a £45million deal from Leeds back in 2022. Since, however, the 29-year-old has made just 16 Premier League appearances for City, having featured as many times in the league during a loan spell with Ipswich Town this season.

The Sun are reporting that Phillips is ‘likely’ to leave Man City this summer, adding that ‘Leeds scouts have been tracking the progress of Phillips’, who famously won the England Men’s Player of the Year award for 2020/21.

But with City, there’s a sense that Phillips just never suited the system. That combined with competing alongside the likes of Rodri and De Bruyne among others for a starting spot meant that Phillips’ time at the Etihad will prove forgettable.

Rather infamously, Guardiola claimed Phillips returned from the 2022 World Cup overweight. From then on, Phillips almost seemed to doomed to fail at City.

But last year, Phillips opened up on the saga. Phillips admitted Guardiola’s comments frustrated him at the time, saying: “I think that narrative on social media just kind of grew and grew to something that it actually wasn’t.

“Every club that I’d go to, I spoke to the manager and the nutritionist and stuff like that, they’d always speak about weight before they’d say anything else.

“It got to the point where it peed me off a little bit. I was getting quite frustrated with it, but then now I’ve come to Ipswich, the manager’s an unbelievable person as well as a manager.”

With Phillips having not exactly set the league alight with Ipswich, failing to score or assist in 16 Premier League games so far, a summer exit certainly seems nailed on; even more so after this emerging report about his future.

It’d be best for all involved if he does seal a permanent exit.
