SINGAPORE – The police and Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) are investigating three cases of fires that occurred in four days in Woodlands.
The fires took place at the void deck of Block 155 Woodlands Street 13 and near the HDB block, said SCDF.
Melted bins, soot-covered walls and a burning smell lingered at the scene of the incident when Chinese-language media outlet Shin Min Daily News reporters visited the area on March 10.
A resident who declined to be named said it was strange that the fires happened one after another and there is a sense of unease among neighbours.
“I’ve been living here for almost 30 years, and this is the first time I’ve come across such a situation,” said the man, according to the Shin Min report.
In response to queries from The Straits Times, SCDF said it was alerted to the fires at around 6.30am on March 7, 6.55am on March 8, and 9.40am on March 10.
The first fire involved contents on a bench, which was put out by an extinguisher by SCDF. The other two fires involved the contents of recycling bins.
No injuries were reported said SCDF, adding that members of the public helped to put out the fires on March 8 and 10 with buckets of water.
Investigations into the fire are ongoing, said SCDF and police.
