Designer HSY makes his Hollywood debut with Disney+ series Deli Boys

Couturier and novice actor Hassan Sheheryar Yasin, popularly known as HSY, is making his mark in Hollywood.

With Disney+’s newly released series Deli Boys, the fashion mogul has not only designed costumes for the Hollywood production but also made his on-screen debut in it — becoming the first Pakistani designer to do so.

Directed by Ahmed Ibrahim and Jenni Konner (Girls), Deli Boys premiered on March 6 on Hulu and Disney+, offering a darkly comedic and thrilling narrative centred around legacy, crime, and chaotic family dynamics.

Tan France, best known for Queer Eye, also features in the series, playing a London-based gang leader in one episode.

The series follows two pampered Pakistani-American brothers, Mir and Raj — played by Asif Ali and Saagar Shaikh — who find their privileged lives unravelling after the sudden demise of their convenience store magnate father.

Thrust into unfamiliar territory, the brothers are forced to reckon with their Baba’s secret life of crime as they attempt to navigate his criminal empire, facing tax evasion, and cocaine smuggling.

HSY has styled lead actors Poorna Jagannathan, Shaikh, and Zainne Saleh for episodes eight and nine of the show, bringing his signature South Asian flair to its visual storytelling. Fans can also catch him on screen in the same episodes.

“Designing for Deli Boys has been an exhilarating experience, but making my Hollywood debut in the show makes it even more special,” HSY shared. “This collaboration is not just about fashion — it’s about representation. Bringing authentic South Asian designs to a global audience in a mainstream Hollywood production is an honour, and I’m thrilled for everyone to witness it.”

HSY made his television debut in 2021 with Pehli Si Mohabbat on ARY Digital, where he took on a drastically different persona from his glamorous fashion world image. Setting aside his quintessential suits, he donned a plain shalwar kameez and a prayer cap to play Akram — the dogmatic and volatile older brother of Sheheryar Munawar’s character. His performance received praise for its intensity and departure from type.

He later made his big screen debut in 2022 with Ishrat Made in China, where he embraced the role of a villain.

The logline for Deli Boys reads: “When their convenience store magnate father suddenly dies, a pair of pampered Pakistani-American brothers lose everything and are forced to reckon with their Baba’s secret life of crime as they attempt to take up his mantle in the underworld.”

The show has been praised for its unique blend of humour and grit, its multidimensional South Asian characters, and a narrative that feels both fresh and culturally resonant.
