Mekhi Becton expected to test free agency's waters, possibly landing in AFC South

There's only so much a man can take. We waited all day for some news to break, and decided we'd hit the hay after hours of grinding. We rocked out from noon EST on Monday until 12 a.m. on Tuesday morning. The expected mass exodus hit the Philadelphia Eagles, but we still didn't know a doggone thing about Meakhi Becton.

ESPN's Tim McManus gave us an update. Good thing too. We've learned to trust him over the years. He reported during the first day of legal tampering that there hadn't been any substantial movement between Howie Roseman and Mekhi Becton to get a deal done.

It sounds like, if nothing substantial materializes over the next 24 hours, Becton will test free agency's waters. One of CBS Sports' own believes he has already seemingly come up with the best landing spot for him, and it's with an AFC South team that could definitely use some reinforcements.

CBS Sports predicts Mekhi Becton will leave the Eagles and land in Indianapolis with the Colts.

A lot is going on. We realize that. It can be hard to sift through everything. The NFL's new league year approaches, and if you aren't inundated with mock drafts, you're seeing a podcast drop seemingly every 15 minutes.

Here's something worth glancing at. CBS Sports' Tyler Sullivan knocked out a nice read, one free-agency fit for each AFC team. He correctly guessed that Justin Fields figured to end up with the NY Jets. Becton lands in the AFC South to help give the Indianapolis Colts a facelift along the offensive front.

Here's some of what he said on the subject:

"The Colts have guards Will Fries and Mark Glowinski set to be free agents, creating a need at right guard. Becton -- who is still just 25 years old -- (and) turned into a high-caliber player after kicking in from tackle to guard with the Philadelphia Eagles...

(He) proved to be a key piece in the team's Super Bowl LIX run. While Colts head coach Shane Steichen didn't have any overlap with Becton when he was the offensive coordinator from 2021-2022, he does know the system he's coming from, which gives a better picture of how he'd fit in Indy."

Philly has already parted with two of its top four free agents this offseason. Zack Baun signed an extension. Josh Sweat is set to walk. He'll reunite with Jonathan Gannon.

Isaiah Rodgers will land on his feet with the Minnesota Vikings. Milton Williams is about to get PAID. He agreed to terms on a new deal with the New England Patriots that becomes official on March 12, the start of the new league year.

Most saw Becton as Philly's fourtb priority after Baun, Williams, and Sweat. We haven't reached the dawn of the new league year yet. Stay tuned. We'll see what happens as we move through the different waves of free agency.
