Sky Sports Germany has reported that Liverpool Football Club is gearing up for what promises to be a transformative summer transfer window in 2025, with significant squad changes expected after two consecutive periods of limited transfer activity.
The last two transfer windows have seen remarkable restraint from Liverpool in the market. During the summer of 2024, their business was limited to the acquisition of Federico Chiesa for just £10 million, while January 2025 passed without any new arrivals – making Liverpool one of only five Premier League clubs not to strengthen their squad during the winter window.
This approach has raised eyebrows among supporters, particularly as rivals continued to invest heavily.
However, this period of transfer dormancy appears set to end dramatically come summer.
Recent reports suggest the club is planning “plenty of change” at Anfield, regardless of whether they manage to secure new contracts for Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk, and Trent Alexander-Arnold – all of whom are approaching the final months of their current deals.
And on the exit front too, there seem to be indications of potential transfers with Florian Plettenberg for Sky Sports Germany reporting that Caoimhin Kelleher, Wataru Endo, Harvey Elliott, Federico Chiesa, and Diogo Jota are all Liverpool candidates for a possible.
Wataru Endo
The Japan international Wataru Endo finds himself in a curious position at Liverpool. The 31-year-old midfielder, who was a surprise signing in 2023 and quickly established himself as a reliable performer under Jürgen Klopp, has seen his opportunities severely limited under Arne Slot.
The Dutchman has started Endo just twice this season, typically using him only as a late substitute to help see out matches.
Nevertheless, Slot has hailed his impact this season with hints that the 32-year-old has won the Dutchman over.
Harvey Elliott
Despite his heroics in the Champions League against PSG, scoring a crucial winner after coming off the bench, Harvey Elliott’s season has been defined by limited opportunities.
The talented 21-year-old has started just four matches under Slot this campaign, a significant reduction from his more prominent role during Jürgen Klopp’s final season.
Federico Chiesa
Italian international Federico Chiesa arrived at Liverpool last summer with high expectations but has struggled to establish himself under Slot.
The former Juventus winger has found consistent playing time difficult to come by given the competition from established stars like Mohamed Salah, Luis Diaz, and Cody Gakpo.
He is yet to make a Premier League start.
Diogo Jota
Jota presents a more complex case in Liverpool’s summer planning.
While his quality is unquestioned – with his clinical finishing and intelligent movement making him one of the Premier League’s most efficient forwards when available – persistent injury problems have frustrated the Liverpool hierarchy.
Caoimhin Kelleher
Perhaps the most certain departure this summer is goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher.
He has not been shy in talking about his ambition to be a No.1 and sees his contract expire in the summer of 2026.
Therefore, this summer window will be the last time Liverpool can get a sizeable transfer fee for the Republic of Ireland star.
