PSG have named their travelling squad to face Liverpool at Anfield this evening in the second leg of the Round of 16 Champions League clash.
The first meeting between these two European heavyweights produced one of the most extraordinary results of this season’s Champions League.
Despite being thoroughly outplayed at the Parc des Princes, Liverpool somehow escaped with a precious 1-0 victory thanks to Harvey Elliott’s 87th-minute winner and an inspired performance from goalkeeper Alisson Becker.
The Brazilian made nine crucial saves as PSG registered 27 shots to Liverpool’s mere two, with the Reds scoring from their only attempt on target.
The victory has given Liverpool a significant advantage heading into tonight’s return fixture, though both teams are fully aware that the tie remains delicately poised.
Liverpool manager Arne Slot received a boost with the news that Cody Gakpo has returned to training and could be available for selection after missing recent matches with an ankle injury. However, the Reds will still be without defenders Conor Bradley and Joe Gomez who remain sidelined.
Liverpool extended their lead at the top of the Premier League to 15 points over the weekend with a 3-1 victory against Southampton, following Arsenal’s 1-1 draw at Manchester United.
History favors Liverpool in this situation, as the Reds have never been eliminated from a European tie after winning the first leg away from home according to the Opta analyst.
Furthermore, of the 27 previous teams to lose the first leg at home in a Champions League knockout tie, only three have managed to progress. The Opta supercomputer reflects these statistics, giving Liverpool a 75% chance of advancing to the quarter-finals, while PSG’s chances stand at just 25%.
With that in mind, the PSG travelling squad is as follows:
1. Gianluigi Donnarumma
2. Achraf Hakimi
