'Still miles away': Chris Sutton makes prediction on how Chelsea fans feel about the team right now

Chris Sutton has shared his views on what he thinks the Chelsea fanbase feels about their current team.

As it stands, Chelsea’s season still hangs in the balance and will be decided by the results in their final few months of the campaign.

The Blues sit fourth in the Premier League table in a fascinating race for Champions League qualification. Also, Enzo Maresca’s side are still competing in the Conference League, where they lead Copenhagen 2-1 on aggregate in a last-16 tie.

Maresca is considered ‘untouchable’ at Chelsea, even if they finish the season strongly. The club’s hierarchy retain full belief in their Italian head coach.

Chris Sutton believes Chelsea supporters think their team is still miles off the top

Chris Sutton predicts that the Chelsea fans will be frustrated under the current ownership and feeling like they’re still a way off the very best teams.

Sutton told BBC Radio 5 Live: “I think Chelsea fans feel they’re certainly not going to get there this season, but they’re still miles away.

“Remember the takeover; they spent an absolute fortune, a billion pounds, and there was this sort of development idea. Lovely in theory, but for a club that has been gluttonous and greedy in terms of winning trophies over a prolonged period, they just feel that they’re slightly beneath that level at the moment, and they can’t quite see how it’s going to join up where they can hit the top.”

We suspect most Chelsea fans know that the current group in the dressing room isn’t experienced enough yet yet to win the biggest trophies in club football. However, the Blues may only be a few key pieces away from returning to the summit.
