NFL Insider Projects $100 Million QB Will Flop With New Team

Sam Darnold was the first quarterback to climb the ladder out of the free agency pool on Monday, agreeing to become Seattle's next passer. The Seahawks saw it fit to invest $100.5 million in the former No. 3 overall draft pick, per NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

Wave Sports + Entertainment's Bomani Jones has made it known that he believes Sam Darnold has touched his ceiling as a professional. Seattle sent DK Metcalf to Pittsburgh not 24 hours earlier, making it even tougher sledding for the USC product.

"That raises the question for me – Tyler Lockett, you just got rid of him or he just left, you just got rid of DK Metcalf - you do have Jaxon Smith-Njigba, but that's all you gonna give Sam Darnold?" Jones said Monday on his podcast, "The Right Time with Bomani Jones." "Is there something I'm missing here? Because if Sam Darnold gotta do it by himself, Sam Darnold does not have the mental constitution for that sort of thing.

"Sam Darnold looked really good throwing to the best wide receiver in the NFL until you needed him, and then he looked like - What'd he look like? What's it called? - Sam Darnold. He looked like the same Sam Darnold he had been the entire time. ... But that is what you do when you need a quarterback."

Darnold joins his fifth NFL team and fourth in as many go-rounds. He threw for 4,319 yards and 35 touchdowns last season - both being career-bests - and went 14-3 in the regular season. Darnold's favorite target, Justin Jefferson, was a unanimous Associated Press All-Pro.
