Paris Saint-Germain have endured their fair share of heartbreak in the UEFA Champions League.
The latest came in their harsh defeat against Liverpool in the first leg of their last-16 tie last week.
The French outfit produced one of their best performances in the competition and still managed to come up short and suffer [an unlikely 1-0 defeat](https://www.tntsports.co.uk/football/champions-league/2024-2025/live-paris-saint-germain-liverpool_mtc1525397/live-commentary.shtml).
Can they turn things around and replicate that display - albeit this time by scoring - at Anfield in the second leg on Wednesday night?
With that in mind, we have selected five of their toughest moments in the competition. It's your decision to decide which one was most painful for PSG.
La Remontada
------------
Let's go back to arguably the greatest comeback in the history of European football.
Who can forget where they were when Barcelona pulled off the unthinkable to dump PSG out of the competition in Catalonia?

Unai Emery's men looked to have placed one foot in the 2016/17 quarter-finals after they completely outclassed Barca in the first leg to come away with a 4-0 win, thanks to an Angel Di Maria double, and goals from Julian Draxler and Edinson Cavani.
However, on March 8, the footballing world would witness one of the greatest matches of all time.
Barcelona found themselves 3-0 up on the night but when Cavani grabbed a crucial away goal after the hour mark, the tie appeared to be dead and buried.
However, Neymar inspired an unlikely comeback for the hosts with two late goals before setting up Sergi Roberto for the winner in stoppage-time to send the Barca fans into raptures.
Rashford penalty
----------------
"The coolest man in the place!"
Those were the words of TNT Sports commentator Darren Fletcher, describing Marcus Rashford's emphatic winning penalty for Manchester United.
The atmosphere in the Parc des Princes had definitely cooled down after the locals had witnessed one of the most unlikely collapses during the 2018/19 campaign.

PSG held a two-goal advantage heading into the second leg after a masterful display at Old Trafford, but similar to their disastrous night in Barcelona, the French side were unable to complete the job.
Having given themselves a glimmer of hope on the night, the Premier League giants needed one more goal to reach the quarter-finals with time running out.
They were given the chance to do just that when Presnel Kimpembe was adjudged to have handled the ball inside the area, and Rashford stepped up to smash the ball past Gianluigi Buffon to break PSG hearts.
Lisbon final defeat
-------------------
It wasn't to be for Thomas Tuchel and his PSG side in 2020.
PSG might have thought the Champions League curse was over when they claimed a stoppage-time win over Atalanta in the quarter-finals.
That was followed up by a fine performance to defeat RB Leipzig, before Bayern Munich awaited them in the final.

With the attacking power of Neymar and Kylian Mbappe up front, PSG were starting to believe it could be the year they would win the competition for the first time in the club's history.
Unfortunately for them, Bayern were in search of a historic treble, and it was the Bundesliga giants who were crowned European champions after Kingsley Coman's winner against his former club.
Benzema hat-trick
-----------------
It was more pain in Spain for the Parisians in 2022.
It was all set for Kylian Mbappe to be the star of the tie after he followed up his injury-time winner in the first leg with an early strike in the second for PSG.

With just 30 minutes remaining, Madrid needed to score three goals to progress into the quarter-finals and it was another French superstar who inspired the comeback.
Karim Benzema notched a 17-minute hat-trick to stun the French side and Madrid held on to send Neymar, Mbappe and new recruit Lionel Messi out of the competition in dramatic fashion.
Alisson masterclass
-------------------
"One of the best matches that we did in the Champions League this season."
Sheer domination turned into utter despair for Luis Enrique, after watching his side dominate Premier League leaders Liverpool in last week's first leg.

The French champions were outstanding in almost every facet of the game but unfortunately for them, Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson was in the form of his life.
The Brazil international made nine saves on the night and even when PSG were able to put the ball into the back of the net, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia's effort was ruled out by VAR.
It was the ultimate smash-and-grab from Arne Slot's side, with substitute Harvey Elliott popping up with the winning goal with two minutes remaining.
