'Exceptional' player Nuno and O'Neil wanted is making strong case for free Wolves transfer -…

Wolves will be in the market for new players once again this summer – and one long-term target may make for a brilliant addition.

The hope is that Wolves will survive relegation, and be able to start afresh for 2025/26.

At the moment, Wanderers are six points clear of the relegation zone, and the struggles of the current bottom three suggest there’s a good chance to stay up.

Gary Lineker can’t look past the bottom three going down. But Wolves need a few more positive results.

It will be really interesting to see what Wolves do this summer. Hopefully, Vitor Pereira will be backed well.

But we all know Fosun love to sanction deals in the cheap – and potentially, there is one player who could make for a very good free signing.

Josh Brownhill is enjoying a brilliant campaign for Burnley in the Championship.

The midfielder has made some important contributions this term for Scott Parker’s side, and the Clarets are giving themselves a great chance of promotion. Currently, they sit third but just two points behind first and second.

There has been so much talk about Burnley’s brilliant defensive solidity this season, and rightly so.

But Brownhill has been in terrific form.

He has scored in each of Burnley’s last three Championship games, taking his tally to 12 for the season. Brownhill has also laid on four assists.

16 goal contributions for a midfielder is undoubtedly impressive going, and Wolves could be wise to sign him this summer.

As things currently stand, Brownhill will leave Burnley this summer when his contract expires.

Parker wants to keep him, but perhaps the 29-year-old will fancy a change of scenery.

Both Nuno Espirito Santo and Gary O’Neil wanted Brownhill at Wolves, but a move never materialised. Maybe Pereira could succeed where his predecessors failed, with the player’s contract situation potentially opening the door.

There will be clamour this summer or Wolves to splash the cash, and hopefully, we do see that happen.

But we know Fosun like a bargain and Brownhill is a player in his prime and available on a free.

The captain at Turf Moor has been a terrific servant during his time at Burnley, and his importance is not lost on manager Scott Parker.

Appearances – 201

Goals – 26

Assists – 21

He said of him earlier this season (via Burnley Express): “There are not enough words to compliment Browny. He’s a driving force in this team, he’s got brilliant box habits and he’s always in and around the right areas.

“He’s got huge quality and he’s now got nine for the season, so he’s been fundamental for us.”

“He is (underrated). He’s an exceptional footballer. One, he’s a good type as a human being. That gives you half a chance in the world we’re in. But he’s also got huge quality.”

As Burnley’s skipper, he’d also bring leadership qualities, so he’s someone Pereira should consider, especially as he can also play several different midfield positions.
