The former Tottenham defender now plays for Celtic in the Scottish Premiership, and featured under Ange Postecoglou.

Crystal Palace will have a hard time yet again in the summer transfer window as they aim to keep hold of some of their top players, who could be in demand.

Last season, they sold Michael Olise to Bayern Munich for a fee of £50.8 million. This season, three players could be in demand from Selhurst Park, including Marc Guehi, Eberechi Eze, and Jean-Philippe Mateta, who have all been subject to transfer interest.

If they do have to sell at least one player, they will likely have to find a replacement, and they have been linked with a centre-back who could replace Guehi if he leaves.

Palace linked with Celtic defender

Marc Guehi has been subject to transfer interest from Tottenham Hotspur, Newcastle United and Chelsea, and could be sold in the summer if he tells Palace that he would like to leave.

The Eagles have been linked to a centre-back who could replace Guehi, as recent reports have linked them to Celtic defender Cameron Carter-Vickers. According to TBR Football, Palace are monitoring Carter-Vickers alongside a ‘number of Premier League clubs’, however Oliver Glanser’s side are the only one that has been named.

Carter-Vickers is no stranger to the Premier League as he played for Tottenham, Bournemouth and Sheffield United in the past. Carter-Vickers made just five appearances at Spurs despite him coming through the academy in North London.

This season, the 27-year-old has made 35 appearances for Celtic this season, including seven in the Champions League. He is also a USA international having made 18 appearances for the National team.

He is expected to be worth £12 million and would be a relatively cheap option for Palace, especially if they sell Guehi for around £70m, which is what Tottenham bid for him in the January transfer window.

Carter-Vickers plays as a pure centre-back and is more of a ‘stopper’ than a more creative defender. He is also very dangerous from set-pieces, something that Palace could improve at next season.

Could Palace lose Guehi in the summer?

England international Guehi has made 27 Premier League appearances for Glasner’s side this season, and was also named captain earlier in the season.

He was subject to transfer bids from Newcastle United in the summer transfer window all of which were rejected by Palace. The Magpies could go back in for Guehi due to their favourable PSR position, especially if they qualify for the Champions League.

Chelsea have also been linked to the England defender, as they look to strengthen at the back in order to cement their place as a Champions League club.

Tottenham saw a £70m bid rejected in January, and could also go in for the 24-year-old in the summer. They haven’t struggled to score this season under Ange Postecoglou, but have been poor defensively, so a move for Guehi would seem favourable.

For your next Palace read, the Eagles are plotting contract talks with one of their most in-demand players.
