Don in the Sky Blue
Gordon Milne-CCFC gaffer
On this day (March 11th) in 1978, not far off fifty years ago, the Sky Blues got the better at home of M69 rivals Leicester City. In front of 24,214 fans at Highfield Road the Sky Blues edged the win with a first half header on twenty minutes from our Welsh winger Donato Nardiello converted from a corner from Scotsman Tommy Hutchison! Sky Blues manager at the time was Gordon Milne (who like ‘Hutch’ is also now an Association member) .
The Foxes would later be relegated but put up a stout resistance relying on the offside trap! Sky Blues Scottish goalkeeper Jim Blyth had a stormer! Mick Ferguson sadly limped off with an ankle injury. The referee today was Mr. T.Morris.
The win gave the Sky Blues the ‘double’ over their East Midlands rivals as they had beaten them the previous October 2-1 at Filbert Street with a rare brace from (now CCFPA member) Mick Coop.
