Man United new stadium plans hand Newcastle perfect St James' Park inspiration

If Newcastle United needed any inspiration for what they could achieve with a new-look St James' Park, then they need look no further than the ambitious Manchester United scheme launched today.

Man United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe has unveiled plans for a state-of-the-art £2bn stadium to replace Old Trafford, saying: “Today marks the start of an incredibly exciting journey to the delivery of what will be the world’s greatest football stadium, at the centre of a regenerated Old Trafford."

It comes as the Newcastle hierarchy are closing in on a decision over whether to expand St James' Park or build a new stadium to accomodate those thousands of fans unable to attend matches. Increased capacity would allow for more coporate seats too, helping to rise matchday revenues.

However, while there is strong emotional attachment to St James', a new stadium could open up huge revenue streams, as well as holding significantly more fans. It's a huge decision, but the pictures below of the new Man United development could at least provide some inspiration.
