Former players believe in PSG’s chances of beating Liverpool

Confidence reigns at Paris Saint-Germain. _Les Parisiens’_ performance against Liverpool, despite defeat, inspired great confidence, a bullish attitude that progression at the expense of the runaway Premier League leaders is possible.

PSG peppered Alisson’s goal but could not beat the Brazilian, who put in an inspired display. Instead, it was Liverpool who would get the only goal of the game through Harvey Elliott in the dying moments, leaving the Parc des Princes in a state of stunned silence.

But the content of PSG’s display meant that, in public declarations and in private, the players and coaching staff remain very optimistic about reversing the deficit at Anfield tonight. Some of the Ligue 1 side’s former players share that confidence. _“I wrote to the president_ (Nasser Al-Khelaifi) _saying that they were going to do it_ (qualify),” Kevin Trapp told **[L’Équipe](https://www.lequipe.fr/Football/Actualites/-ils-peuvent-le-faire-les-anciens-du-psg-croient-a-la-qualification-face-a-liverpool/1545864).**

##### Aurier warns PSG of Anfield atmosphere

_“Qualification for the quarter-final?  I hope so in any case but I would say more yes,”_ added Benjamin Stambouli. Serge Aurier, who played for _Les Parisiens_ between 2014 and 2017 was also optimistic but he also provided a warning for Luis Enrique’s men.

_“I think that they can do it. But be careful of Anfield – the pressure and the pressing are huge. It will be like that almost all match. They will have to retain the positives from the first match, of course, but I think that this will be completely different,”_ said the former PSG defender.

That note of caution was also struck by Luis Enrique. _“The circumstances will be different. The match will be more even, obviously, but I am confident,”_ said the PSG manager.
