Chelsea are likely to step-up their interest in Manchester United star this summer. They have doubts over the future of current star and hence are monitoring his replacements.
The Blues are set for a busy summer transfer window with new faces expected in all parts of pitch. A new midfielder is expected due to the current situation. Casadei left in January whereas Chukwuemeka and Dewsbury-Hall are likely to leave in summer.
The Blues have Enzo Fernandez, Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia as main midfielders right now. All three of them are good but Lavia has been highly injury prone. He has missed many games due to muscle and ankle issues.
Lavia joined Chelsea for £58 million from Southampton in summer 2023. But, he has since been able to play only 13 games for the West London club. This has raised some doubts over the Belgian’s long-term future at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea eye Man United star as Lavia’s replacement
According to Caught Offside, the Blues view Kobbie Mainoo as replacement for Romeo Lavia. The Red Devils star can be likely to available in summer market due to his contract situation. The West London club can take the advantage and secure his services.

Mainoo has two years left on his current United contract. He has came up through their academy and established himself as a key star for Red Devils. In addition, he is also a regular member of England national team. However, he is still paid low at the Manchester club.
Mainoo earns £20,000 per week and his representatives are asking for a pay-rise. They are demanding £180,000 per week which United may find hard to offer. United are in tough financial condition right now and hence may opt to sell Mainoo. Chelsea can sign him and place him right next to Palmer financially.
