Forgotten former Chelsea man drafted to play in new Baller League, John Terry and KSI are involved

A number of lower-league footballers have been given another chance at stardom in a brand new football competition.

The Baller League gets underway later this month, and on Monday the draft for the competition took place.

A host of big names are involved in the project, and Chelsea legend John Terry is one of those fronting the competition.

Terry has been involved with the Chelsea academy since retiring from his playing career, as well as assistant manager roles at Aston Villa and Leicester City.

Now, the Englishman is part of a group of former and current players as well as internet personalities pushing a six-a-side league that will put the spotlight on a number of players lower down the leagues.

One of those players who was available for selection was Michael Hector, who was signed by Chelsea in 2015.

The centre-back never played a game for the Blues after being signed by Jose Mourinho, and Hector recently joined Dagenham and Redbridge in an attempt to save their season.

It looks as if his attention is going to be split though, with the Jamaica international being selected to play for Angry Ginge’s Yanited.

What is the Baller League?

The Baller League in the UK comes after the success of the inaugural version launched in Germany, headlined by Mats Hummels and Lukas Podolski.

A combination of former professional footballers, current pros and influencers are helping bring eyes to the product, with the likes of Alan Shearer, KSI and Ian Wright all playing a role in boosting its popularity.

12 teams will compete in six-a-side football, where a variety of rule changes during the game will impact proceedings greatly.

The final three minutes of the game will see the sides reduced to three vs three, with long range goals counting double and goalkeepers not able to use their hands.

Penalties will be taken in an MLS style, with the attacker one-vs-one with the goalkeeper.

The competition will start this month, with the winner being crowned at the end of the weekly tournament in May.
