When the 100,000-seater Man United stadium will be complete as architect Norman Foster shares timeline

Manchester United fans now know how long it will be until they can enter the new 100,000-seater stadium for the first time.

On Tuesday morning, Manchester United confirmed plans to build a new stadium as part of a wider regeneration scheme funded by the government.

Gary Neville was blown away by stadium plans, with photos revealing a unique design inspired by the devil trident that features on the club badge.

There were two options available to Sir Jim Ratcliffe, to either develop and refurbish Old Trafford or to build a new stadium. After months of deliberating, the decision is now final.

A new stadium is expected to cost £2bn but will have huge financial benefits. Finance expert Adam Williams estimated a new venue will generate £230m in revenue per year.

When Man United’s new stadium will be finished

Previous reports have claimed that Ratcliffe wanted the new stadium built by 2030, and it seems the British billionaire’s wish is set to come true.

That is because the architect in charge of the project – Lord Norman Foster – has revealed that United plan to complete the stadium “in five years”.

“Normally a stadium would take 10 years to build. We halved that time, five years.

“How do we do that? By prefabrication. By using the network of Manchester ship canal, bringing it back to a new life.

“Shipping in components, 160 of them, Meccano-like. Then we rebuild the Old Trafford station.”

Sir Jim Ratcliffe promises ‘world’s greatest’ stadium

Ratcliffe always wanted a new stadium, and now those plans have been finalised. It lays out an exciting five-year plan for United’s future.

Attached to the announcement of the new stadium, Ratcliffe sent a message to United fans promising the “world’s greatest” stadium.

“Today marks the start of an incredibly exciting journey to the delivery of what will be the world’s greatest football stadium, at the centre of a regenerated Old Trafford,” Ratcliffe said.

Speaking to Gary Neville on The Overlap, Ratcliffe insisted that United have fallen behind the likes of Real Madrid and Barcelona, who boast the iconic Bernabeu and Camp Nou stadiums.

While the surrounding area will be funded by the government’s regeneration scheme, Ratcliffe also confirmed that United will pay for the construction of the new stadium, expected to cost around £2bn.
