Premier League clubs braced for ‘carnage’ as Nottingham Forest tipped to be used in Manchester…

Nottingham Forest found themselves in the dock last season after breaching PSR and along with Everton they were deducted points in the way of a punishment.

In truth, it was always coming. Forest perhaps got lucky to only lose four points given that a total of 30 new players were signed following promotion in 2022

The Reds managed to adopt a siege mentality and ultimately avoided relegation from the Premier League, allowing the team to thrive during the 2024/25 campaign.

On Saturday, Forest defeated Manchester City 1-0 at the City Ground to go four points clear of their Premier League rivals with 10 games remaining.

However, City have much bigger things to worry about than losing to Forest and await the outcome of their pending 130 charges in the coming weeks.

It’s claimed in The I Paper that Premier League clubs are braced for carnage when the verdict drops on the 130 charges being faced by Manchester City.

There have been warnings of aftershocks among the other 19 clubs extending into next season, with this not deemed an easy case to resolve by anyone.

The latest report has seen The I Paper speak with sports lawyers and they believe the three former judges who are overseeing the hearing will be following the similar precedent that was handed to Everton and Forest last season.

Now, if that is the case – and given how much worse the situation regarding City is – Pep Guardiola might need to brace himself for a sizeable point deduction.

Premier League clubs could decide if City are relegated

This situation would be a fascinating one to watch unfold and it makes for an intriguing development.

Should the Premier League win against the charges on City and it emerges that they’ve committed the most serious breaches, it might well be down to the other Prmeier League clubs to decide if they’re relegated.

However, it does remain unclear whether the Independent Commission has the power to go against what is currently written in the Premier League’s rulebook and punish the club with expulsion from the division.

This who situation feels messy. Forest fans will naturally be watching with intrigue along with Everton supporters but based on the new reports that have emerged, it appears that any decision will merely be just the start.
