Manchester City player left out of NT squad – Manager explains injury return could be delayed

In August, Manchester City’s Oscar Bobb suffered a foot injury days after the Citizens’ Community Shield win over Manchester United.

The Norway international hasn’t made an appearance and has been on the sidelines since then. On February 28th, Manchester City, via their official website, stated he’s returned to training. Bobb, however, hasn’t returned to the match day squad yet.

Earlier today, Norway manager Ståle Solbakken announced his squad to face Moldova and Israel later this month. He didn’t include the Manchester City player for the two World Cup qualifiers.

Speaking to Norway’s NRK, the national team manager stated the 21-year-old has been training with the Premier League club. He even suggested there were discussions with Pep Guardiola over excluding the player from the squad.

“We had a conversation with Guardiola indirectly. We have a full overview of what he has done, and there is very little in big games. Zero games and little big games, but he is at least in training now,” he said.

The manager said that at the moment, Bobb ‘isn’t close’ to playing international matches. He even explained why the midfielder’s return from injury at Manchester City could be delayed.

“He has had a couple of setbacks along the way, and it was a broken leg. Sometimes it takes longer than you hope,” Solbakken explained.

“City is in a position where they can’t give him any free minutes either. They are fighting for their lives for Champions League games [qualification], and that will probably delay his comeback even further.”

Manchester City are currently fifth in the table, level on points with sixth placed Newcastle United, and two points behind fourth placed Chelsea.
