'One of the best': Newcastle star makes Carabao Cup final admission after Liverpool links

Having enjoyed an almost perfect start to life as Liverpool boss, Arne Slot will have his first shot at a trophy in the Carabao Cup final.

The Reds got the better of Newcastle back in February and will be hoping to do the same at Wembley on Sunday.

Currently 23 points ahead of the Magpies in the Premier League table, Slot’s side enter the final as strong favourites – with Danny Murphy tipping Liverpool as winners.

Eddie Howe’s side, however, will be no easy task for the Reds, with Newcastle planning new tactics ahead of the Wembley clash.

Toon midfielder, Bruno Guimaraes, has been talking on his side’s chances ahead of the final, also giving his verdict on the challenge Liverpool will bring.

Bruno Guimaraes claims Liverpool are one of the best teams in the world

Having comfortably dispatched the Magpies 2-0 in their last meeting, Liverpool will fancy their chances in the final, especially with Newcastle missing Anthony Gordon through suspension.

With this in mind, Guimaraes seems to recognise the challenge at hand, admitting to SkySports that Liverpool are ‘one of the best teams in the world’.

When asked if the cup final has been a distraction to Newcastle in recent weeks, Guimareas replied:

“A little bit to be honest with you. Of course, we have been thinking about the final, as it’s massive for the club’s history. We want to be part of that and make history.

“We know that we are going to play against one of the best teams in the world nowadays, but I have confidence in ourselves and hopeful we can go to Wembley and get the title.”

Liverpool have long-standing interest in Guimaraes

The Newcastle midfielder’s verdict on the Reds is particularly interesting when you realise Liverpool have targeted Guimaraes for some time now.

Having searched for midfield reinforcements upon Slot’s arrival, Liverpool asked about Guimaraes last summer with a £100m fee being touted.

Great in possession and hard-working off the ball – the Brazilian’s talents are something that would no doubt attract Slot.

With that being said, if Guimaraes plays a blinder in the Carabao Cup final, he could maybe tempt Liverpool to step-up their interest this coming summer.
