Journalist Says He’s“Convinced”That Dutch Ace Has Agreement To Move Clubs This Summer Amid City Transfer Links

Manchester City transfer target Xavi Simons is likely to leave RB Leipzig at the end of the season, according to Bild reporter Christian Falk.

The Dutchman only moved to Germany from Paris Saint-Germain on a permanent basis in January, but his contract only runs until the end of the 2026/2027 season and Falk believes that means he could be on the move again within a matter of months:

“I am convinced that agreements have been made or that there is an escape clause in his contract, so that he can leave next summer.”

At this moment in time, it is unclear whether Simons has a gentleman’s agreement with Leipzig or whether a buyout fee exists in his contract.

Simons has been linked with several Premier League teams

City are not the only club who have been keeping tabs on the 21-year-old. Reports suggest that the likes of Liverpool, Manchester United and Arsenal are also keen on the player.

Simons won’t be available on the cheap, though, with Leipzig having paid an initial €50m (£42m) for his services, in addition to another €31m (£26m) in performance-related bonuses.

City have looked at alternatives

The Premier League champions are expected to recruit an attacking midfielder this summer. They are known to be big fans of Jamal Musiala but the German has recently committed his long-term future to Bayern Munich, having put pen to paper on a new five-and-a-half year deal last month.

Another potential target is Bayer Leverkusen’s Florian Wirtz but his asking price is well in excess of £100m. While the 21-year-old is probably higher up the shortlist than Simons, the latter is expected to be available for a lower price, especially considering the limited amount of time left on his contract.
