Jim Ratcliffe’s net worth has dropped since his involvement in Manchester United.
Jim Ratcliffe shook a large chunk of Manchester United’s fanbase this week with his comments about the state of the club and how some senior players are being ‘overpaid’.
The club co-owner and INEOS chairman divided opinions when he branded some players as ‘not good enough’ and ‘probably overpaid’. Ratcliffe also named the likes of Andre Onana and Rasmus Hojlund as ‘inherited’ whether the club ‘likes it or not’.
The scathing comments during his interview with BBC Sport included labelling the appointments of Erik ten Hag and former sporting director Dan Ashworth as ‘errors’. The 72-year-old also did little to patch over previous remarks made about the women’s team — sectioning the FA Cup winners as a ‘smaller issue’ at the club.
Ratcliffe bought a 27.7 per cent stake in United last year in a £1.3 billion deal. The Glazer family remain the majority shareholders while Ratcliffe’s INEOS group took charge of the club’s football operations. He upped his stake to 28.94 per cent in December.
Earlier this year, Deloitte released its latest Football Money League list, displaying the highest revenue generating clubs in the world. While Real Madrid topped the list with £883 million, Manchester City were ranked second (£708m), with United in fourth (£651.5m) behind Paris Saint-Germain (£681m).
What are Jim Ratcliffe and the Glazers’ net worth?
As of March 2025, Ratcliffe’s reported net worth stands at $16 billion (£12.3bn), according to Forbes. This figure has dropped since his involvement in Man United, the minority owner has experienced a drop since the 2023 figure was released, with his overall net worth value dipping from $22.9 billion (£17.7bn).
Forbes also reported the Glazer Family’s combined net worth as $10 billion (£7.7bn), as of August last year. The Glazers also own NFL side Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
What else did Jim Ratcliffe say in his interview?
Ratcliffe confirmed he is a ‘great supporter’ of new manager Ruben Amorim and has backed him to remain at the club for a significant period of time.
“If I actually look at the squad which is available to Ruben, I think he is doing a really good job to be honest. I think Ruben is an outstanding young manager. I really do. He's an excellent manager and I think he will be there for a long time,” Ratcliffe said.
The British billionaire has also acknowledged the current ‘period of change’ is an uncomfortable situation for fans and others but stressed how some ‘unpleasant’ decisions being made behind the scenes are ‘necessary for the club to continue to move forward.
“If people want to see Manchester United winning trophies again then we have do all this stuff. I recognise I'm unpopular at the moment — but I am prepared to be, and I can deal with being unpopular for a period of time because I believe that what we're doing is the right thing.
“Manchester United has come off the rails — we need to get it back on the rails, and I believe what we are doing will put it back on the rails and we'll finish up being where Liverpool or Real Madrid are today in the future.”
