Southampton’s injury list ahead of their crunch Premier League clash with Wolves

Southampton were promoted from the Championship last year after beating Leeds United in the play-off final at Wembley. Striker Adam Armstrong, who is now out on loan at West Brom, scored their winner against the Whites.

Fast forward to now and the Saints are rock-bottom of the Premier League table and are in the drop zone with Leicester City and Ipswich Town. It has been a tough season for the Hampshire outfit and they are set for a return to the Football League after just a year.

They lost 3-1 away at Liverpool last time out with Will Smallbone on the scoresheet. Next up is a home clash against Wolves this weekend.

When will Jan Bednarek be back from injury?

James Bree - doubt. Southampton will need to make checks on right-back James Bree ahead of their game against Wolves. The defender missed out against Liverpool with a thigh issue and needs to be assessed. Expected return date: 02/04/2025.

Jan Bednarek - doubt. He sat out against Chelsea before returning to the starting XI at Anfield. However, the centre-back was taken off during the game with concussion. The club will now need to make a decision regarding his situation and it will depend on how he is doing. Expected return date: 15/03/2025.

Juan Larios - doubt. The 21-year-old has been lacking match fitness over recent times and has subsequently found game time hard to come by. He joined the Saints back in 2022 from Manchester City and the former Seville and Barcelona defender has only made a handful of appearances so he will hope to get more opportunities down the line. Expected return date: Unknown.

Kyle Walker-Peters - back. He was a doubt heading into their match-up against Chelsea but is now fit again. He got 90 minutes under his belt against Arne Slot’s side at right-back. Expected return date: now.

Southampton attacking woes

Ryan Fraser - out. The winger has been sidelined for Southampton since the end of January due to injury and has been unavailable. He has played 10 matches since making his switch from Newcastle United permanent and it has been a frustrating season for him. Ivan Juric shared this update just over a month ago: “We had problems with [Ryan] Fraser and [Nathan Wood], not big ones, but they will be out for this one.” Expected return date: Unknown.

Ross Stewart - out. He has had bad luck on the injury front since joining the Saints from Sunderland and simply hasn’t been able to get going yet. The Scotsman is in the treatment room with a muscle problem right now and an exact return date cannot be established at this moment in time which isn’t ideal. Expected return date: Unknown.

Adam Lallana - available. Lallana missed the match against Chelsea with a thigh injury but returned against his former team Liverpool off the bench. Speaking ahead of the match at Stamford Bridge late last month, Juric said: “Lallana has a little problem with his hamstring that we'll see tomorrow.” Expected return date: now.
