It has been a terrible season thus far for the Phoenix Suns and they are expected to make some major roster changes in the offseason.
Phoenix entered the season expected to compete near the top of the Western Conference standings thanks to their superstar duo of Kevin Durant, Devin Booker and Bradley Beal, but that has not been the case.
Instead, the Suns currently sit 11th in the West standings with a 30-35 record, which has them two and a half games behind the Dallas Mavericks for the final Play-In spot.
Of course, the Suns could still make a late run for the final Play-In spot with the Mavericks' roster decimated by injuries, but it is likely they would see an early exit with how they have performed this season.
Due to this, they are expected to make some major changes in the offseason, which could see them move on from Durant.
If that is the case, Suns' reporter Duane Rankin recently reported that Phoenix is seeking three first-round picks and a young player in any trade involving Durant.
"Sources informed The Republic the most ideal return on a Durant trade is regaining three first-round picks and a young player as part of a multi-team deal tied to getting under the second apron," Rankin wrote.
With this asking price, there should be many teams around the NBA willing to offer what the Suns want for Durant, but his age may also play a role.
Durant is 36 years old and is nearing the end of his NBA career. Despite this, he is still playing at an All-NBA level, but with his age and his contract set to expire after next season, teams may not want to meet Phoenix's price for him.
Although that may be the case, there should still be plenty of teams interested in Durant in the summer if he becomes available and one of them may be willing to give the Suns exactly what they are asking for as they try to retool their roster around Booker.
