Manchester United have taken a significant step towards a new era with the unveiling of plans for a state-of-the-art stadium.
Sir Jim Ratcliffe has long pushed for a fresh start rather than redeveloping Old Trafford, and that vision is now coming to life with renowned architect Norman Foster at the helm.
Norman Foster, 89, is a legendary figure in British architecture, having designed iconic structures like Apple Park, Spotify Camp Nou, and the new Wembley.
Born in Reddish, Stockport, he has a deep connection to Manchester, making this project particularly special.
His firm has been involved in United’s stadium plans from the outset, and he is now tasked with delivering a world-class, 100,000-seater venue that will serve as the centrepiece of Manchester’s regeneration.

Describing it as “one of the most exciting projects in the world today,” Foster outlined the stadium’s ambitious features, including an expansive umbrella structure designed to harness energy and rainwater while sheltering a massive public plaza.
“The stadium is contained by a vast umbrella, harvesting energy and rainwater, and sheltering a new public plaza that is twice the size of Trafalgar Square,” said Foster.
“The outward-looking stadium will be the beating heart of a new sustainable district, which is completely walkable, served by public transport, and endowed by nature,” he added.
This marks the first concrete step in what is expected to be a decade-long project, finally giving United the world-class home they have long needed.
