Liverpool lead the race for long-term Chelsea target

Liverpool are leading the race to sign world-class defender this summer. This will be a massive blow for Chelsea who have him on radar since a really long-time.

The Blues have defensive reinforcements as top priority for the summer transfer window. They are set to bring-in atleast two new defenders. In contrast, both Chalobah and Disasi will depart whereas Badiashile also has his future uncertain at the club.

On the other hand, Liverpool are also set to bring in some new defenders. Their club captain Virgil van Dijk will be out of contract at the end of this season. Even if he extends his stay, he will need replacement soon as he’s 33 years old.

Apart from Van Dijk, his partner Ibrahima Konate is also linked with away moves. This has caused the Reds to monitor defensive options available in the market. As of now, they are said to have a lead in race for English defender.

Liverpool leading the race to sign Marc Guehi

The star in question here is Marc Guehi of Crystal Palace. He joined Palace from Chelsea and now is one of the best defenders in Premier League. He has also established himself as a regular for England national team.

Guehi will enter the final year of his contract this summer. Palace will not like to lose him for free and hence will cash-in on him. He can be made available on discount and Chelsea are keen to bring him back at Stamford Bridge.

The Blues are joined by Liverpool and Newcastle United in the race. According to Football Insider, Liverpool have the lead in the race as they have not spent big in last two windows. This will allow the Reds to spend freely this summer and secure the services of Guehi.

Liverpool also have sights on Dean Huijsen of Bournemouth. He has £50 million release clause in his current contract. Chelsea are also in the race for Huijsen and hence the Reds can be in battle with the Blues for two different targets.
