It would be fair to say that Sir Jim Ratcliffe has not endeared himself to Manchester United fans during his first year as co-owner.
However, the club’s supporters should welcome his willingness to discuss a wide range of subjects with the media this week.
A lack of communication from the Glazer family has been a bugbear for United fans, so Ratcliffe deserves credit for sticking his head above the parapet.
United fans must trust the process, as it’s all they have left
Job cuts, underperforming players, Dan Ashworth, Erik ten Hag, Ruben Amorim and Bruno Fernandes were among the subjects Ratcliffe discussed with the media.
After years of being treated with disdain by the Glazers, supporters now have someone willing to explain the decisions he makes.
While they may not like what they hear, there undoubtedly appears to be some thought put into the seemingly ruthless way he is changing the club’s culture.
It will not be seen for some time whether his methods deliver the desired results, but Ratcliffe seems confident he will get United moving in the right direction.
‘Trust the process’ is a well-worn philosophy in football, but it is all United fans have left to cling to after years of mismanagement by the Glazers.
