Jamie Carragher is regarded as one of Liverpool’s most loyal servants and a modern-day club legend.
The Anfield side’s second all-time appearance maker with 737 games played for the Reds, Carragher’s legacy is entangled with the modern story of Liverpool, with the defender part of the squad that won the 2005 UEFA Champions League in Istanbul.
With Xabi Alonso claiming Carragher was his favourite Liverpool teammate, the former England international will be remembered on Merseyside for generations to come, with the ex-defender now a prominent pundit.
Yet it’s easy to forget that Carragher grew up an Everton supporter, and because of this, one Liverpool legend made the former Anfield centre-back cry during his childhood.

Jamie Carragher reveals Ian Rush made him cry after 1989 FA Cup final
Speaking on the Overlap last year, Carragher revealed when naming his best Liverpool XI that Ian Rush made him cry on the way home from the 1989 FA Cup final, where the Reds beat Everton 3-2 in extra-time with the Welsh legend scoring twice.
Having also scored a brace against Everton in the 1986 FA Cup final with Liverpool, Rush was a tormentor for the Toffees during the 80s as the attacker solidified himself as the Reds’ all-time leading goalscorer.
And for Carragher, Rush was a player who clearly gave the Liverpool icon nightmares when he was younger, a funny tale given how important the defender ended up becoming for the Reds once making it out of the academy.

Carragher said: “Kenny Dalglish has got to play and Ian Rush goes in because of what he wo. If Luis Suarez would have won the league, I would have put Suarez in. But you think about what Rush did in those cup finals against Everton, I was crying on the way home!”
Could Mohamed Salah break Ian Rush’s Liverpool goalscoring record?
Mohamed Salah has been breaking records at a stunning rate for Liverpool this season, with the winger making history twice with the Reds this weekend alone after scoring twice against Southampton in a 3-1 win.

Yet as good as Salah has been for Liverpool in the last seven years, the 32-year-old winger is unlikely to match or even beat Rush’s all-time record for the Reds, with the Egyptian currently 103 goals off the Anfield legend.
Indeed, Salah has already etched his way into the Liverpool history books with some truly iconic seasons, yet Rush’s goalscoring record is one achievement that might stand the test of time for the Merseyside giants.
