The family of one of the three Kansas City Chiefs fans found dead and frozen in a friend’s backyard has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the two men that were arrested last week. The suspects, Jordan Willis and Ivory Carson, were each charged with three counts of involuntary manslaughter and two counts of delivery of a controlled substance.
David Harrington, along with Ricky Johnson and Clayton McGeeney, were found dead at the home of Jordan Willis two days after they visited his home to watch the Chiefs play the Chargers. Now, the Harrington family is suing Willis and Carson’s DNA was found on bags of cocaine and fentanyl by investigators.
“The probable cause statement alleges that Mr. Willis was determined to be the major contributor of DNA found on that bag [with cocaine],” Platte County Prosecutor Eric Zahnd said last week. “The other bag contained fentanyl and the probable cause statement alleges that Mr. Carson was determined to be the major contributor of DNA on that bag.”
TMZ reports that Jon Harrington, the father of David Harrington, filed the wrongful death lawsuit in Missouri on Friday. In the lawsuit, Harrington claims Willis and Carson gave David cocaine and fentanyl and “failed to render aid or otherwise attempt to rescue” his son, who died of fentanyl and cocaine toxicity, according to Prosecutor Zahnd.
Willis, who ignored numerous messages and visits to his home by people looking for the three Chiefs fans, claimed to police that he had “no idea” his friends’ dead bodies were outside his home when officers arrived at his house. It wasn’t until the fiancee of one of the men broke into Willis’ house through the basement after they had been missing for two days that the bodies were found.
“Justice doesn’t really mean anything to me,” Jon Harrington told People last week. “No, my son’s gone and nothing’s going to bring him back. And whether they arrested them and the trial was held today, it won’t be, I don’t have real strong hopes for what’s going to happen with any of that.”
Harrington is seeking unspecified damages. Willis and Carson have both pleaded not guilty to the charges against them and are expected to appear in court again this week.
