The design, which has been fronted by Lord Norman Foster, was shown in jaw-dropping videos and pictures which highlighted the incredible scale of regeneration of not just the football stadium, but of the Old Trafford area.

United’s design of their new ground includes a 200m high trident, making it 31m higher than the current tallest building in Manchester, the Beetham Tower, which will be visible from 37.4km away – meaning it could be seen from the Peak District, parts of Cheshire, and the outskirts of Liverpool.

The design will also feature a 104,068 square metre canopy that will harvest sun and rainwater.

Foster appeared in a video explaining how the new stadium will be built in half the time as he highlighted the importance of the Manchester Ship Canal in constructing the ground.

“Normally, a stadium would take 10 years to build. We half that time. Five years. How do we do that? By prefabrication. By using the network of Manchester Ship Canal. Bringing it back to a new life. Shipping in components, 160 of them, Meccano-like,” he said.

United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe echoed Foster’s comments, adding: "We can build a stadium much more quickly. There are yards that build structures and are then shipped to locations around the world... The thing that allows us to do that is the Manchester Ship Canal. That halves the time."

Foster continued to describe the stadium build as “one of the most exciting projects in the world today". He added: “It all starts with the fans' experience, bringing them closer than ever to the pitch and acoustically cultivating a huge roar.
