“The Packers Need Cornerback Help”: Green Bay Packers Linked To Texas Longhorns Star In Latest…

The Green Bay Packers for now have not traded their first-round selection in the 2025 NFL Draft. Green Bay will have the 23rd overall pick in the draft.

With the Packers hosting the NFL Draft this year, some fans believe that general manager Brian Gutekunst is holding onto that draft pick for that reason. Anyhow, Green Bay is looking to draft defensive back help. They will also need help on the defensive line, and also at wide receiver, as well.

Ohio State receiver Emeka Egbuka (2) has a catch broken up by Texas Longhorns defensive back Jahdae Barron (7) during the College Football Playoff semifinal game in the Cotton Bowl at AT&T Stadium on Friday, Jan. 10, 2024 in Arlington, Texas.

CBS sports writer Garrett Podell created his latest 2025 NFL Mock Draft. With the 23rd overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, the Packers select Texas Longhorns cornerback Jahdae Barron in the latest edition of this NFL Mock Draft. Podell said,

“The Packers need cornerback help. No. 1 corner Jaire Alexander could easily be on another team by the end of the month, and 2021 first-round pick corner Eric Stokes didn’t pan out and is set to become a free agent. Barron won the 2024 Jim Thorpe Award as college football’s best defensive back, and he had a 91.3 coverage grade from Pro Football Focus, the second best by a cornerback in the nation. He’ll help patch up Green Bay’s secondary in a hurry.”

The Green Bay Packers have already started to overhaul its cornerback position on Monday by signing Nate Hobbs to a four-year deal worth $48 million. He played with the Las Vegas Raiders last season.

As for Jahdae Barron, he recorded 67 tackles, one sack, five interceptions, and 11 pass deflections. Barron is 5’11” and weighs 200 lbs. He would no doubt be starting for the Packers next season if drafted by them.

Jaire Alexander Future Remains In Question

Green Bay Packers cornerback Jaire Alexander (23) tackles Chicago Bears running back D’Andre Swift (4) during the first quarter of their game Sunday, November 17, 2024 at Solider Field in Chicago, Illinois.

For now, the Green Bay Packers have yet to trade Jaire Alexander. They may decide to release him if they can’t trade him. If they were to keep him around, the Green Bay Packers need to draft a cornerback anyway after signing Nate Hobbs. They can not rely on Alexander’s health, and this is one of the reasons why they want to move on from him.

A potential starting cornerback duo of Jahdae Barron and Nate Hobbs could be intriguing for the Packers next season. Those two would replace Eric Stokes and Jaire Alexander. Will they also keep Keisean Nixon on the roster? He’s another cornerback that Green Bay may decide to move on from.

The Texas Longhorns cornerback may not be the only cornerback that the Packers may draft in 2025. There is also a chance that Barron could be already off the board by the time Green Bay drafts. If that’s the case, Maxwell Hairson of the Kentucky Wildcats or Shavon Revel Jr. of the East Carolina Pirates.
