Former Chelsea player was fuming when Jose Mourinho was sacked by the club, he wouldn’t of joined if he knew

It is clear to see the impact that club icon Jose Mourinho has had on the Blues and a number of the players who have featured for him.

The Portuguese manager won three Premier League titles across his two spells at Stamford Bridge, leading some of the best teams Chelsea fans have ever seen to a plethora of trophies.

Mourinho was key to John Obi Mikel joining Chelsea, hosting a secret meeting with the player before he committed his future to Manchester United.

Club legends such as John Terry, Frank Lampard and Didier Drogba all played some of their best football under the two-time Champions League winning coach, however not everything was perfect about his time in West London.

He has made some questionable signings across both his eras at Chelsea. Mourinho brought Michael Hector to Chelsea in 2015, with him now set to play in the six-a-side Baller League.

Tal Ben Haim regretted joining Chelsea after Jose Mourinho was sacked

Another player who joined was Tal Ben Haim, signing in 2007 following a successful spell with Bolton Wanderers.

The defender lasted just one season at Stamford Bridge, and it seems there was a very clear reason why he left so fast.

Ben Haim had started six of the first eight Premier League games of the season, however quickly found himself out of the plans at Chelsea.

This came around the same time that Roman Abramovich made the controversial decision to sack Mourinho, replacing him with Avram Grant.

Ben Haim stated later in the season that he would never have joined the Blues if that decision was going to be made, and was highly critical of the man who replaced him.

He said to The Telegraph: “Jose Mourinho is the reason I came to Chelsea and if I knew Avram Grant was going to be the coach then I would have signed for another club.

“It was Jose who brought me here and no one except he and I know the conversation we had when he tried to sign me the first time a year ago last January.

“The fact is while Jose was the coach I played most of the games and people who know me know that I would not have come here to be a reserve.

“I knew that nothing good would come with Grant as Chelsea coach.”

Ben Haim was fined for his comments by the club, and he would depart at the end of the season, moving to Manchester City.

Tal Ben Haim’s career after leaving Chelsea

There was only one full season of first team football at City for Ben Haim, but he would remain in England for some time, bouncing around numerous sides.

The Isreal international would play for Sunderland, Portsmouth, West Ham and QPR, however struggled to find a regular home.

The defender would retire in 2021, finishing off playing in his home country for Maccabi Tel Aviv and Jerusalem FC.

It is fair to say Chelsea did not miss the presence of Ben Haim given the quality of defenders they had at the back, and the likes of Gary Cahill and Terry would form another strong defence when Mourinho returned to the club and won another league title.
