India has donated 32 tons of humanitarian aid, including medicines, medical equipment, winter coats, and social support items, to aid drug treatment centers in Afghanistan.
The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) stated on its social media platform X on Tuesday, March 11 that it has been actively working to support drug use disorder treatment in Afghanistan. A major highlight is the donation from the Government of India, which contributed 32 tons of humanitarian aid.
This current support includes essential medicines, medical equipment, winter coats, social support items, and sports supplies, which will help strengthen drug treatment centers in Afghanistan.
“UNODC continues to support drug use disorder treatment in #Afghanistan. We are grateful to the #GovernmentOfIndia for donation of 32 tons of humanitarian aid—essential medicines, medical equipment, winter coats, social support items & sports supplies for drug treatment centers,” UNODC stated.
Since August 2021, India has provided significant relief to Afghanistan, delivering 27 tonnes of relief material, 50,000 tonnes of wheat, 40,000 litres of pesticides, and over 300 tonnes of medicines and medical equipment. This ongoing assistance highlights India’s commitment to supporting the country during times of crisis.
India has also collaborated with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) to support the welfare of Afghanistan’s drug-using population, particularly women. This partnership aims to address the growing challenges related to drug use disorders in the country, with India providing essential aid and resources to UNODC’s efforts.
Since 2022, India has supplied 11,000 units of hygiene kits, baby food, clothing, medical aid, and more than 30 tons of social support items to UNODC in Kabul. India emphasized on historic relationship with Afghanistan, underscoring Delhi’s readiness to assist and its continued commitment to supporting international efforts for a stable, peaceful, and prosperous Afghanistan.
This continued partnership between the UNODC and the Government of India underscores India’s commitment to addressing the growing challenges related to drug abuse in Afghanistan. The donation aims to enhance the availability and quality of care for individuals suffering from drug use disorders, facilitating long-term recovery and well-being.
