Liverpool stalwart Andy Robertson was on media duties to talk about the PSG clash
Liverpool legend Andy Robertson is looking ahead to the game against PSG in the second leg of the Champions League Last 16. The Scottish defender started in the first leg and helped the Reds keep an unlikely clean sheet.
Liverpool were dominated by the French champions PSG in Paris last week. The Reds were clearly outrun, outpaced and tactically outworked by the Parisians but somehow managed to find a way to win the game 0-1 in the end.
Liverpool star Alisson Becker and Harvey Elliott
Harvey Elliot, the eventual match-winner got substituted on in the 86th minute and replaced the in-form Mohamed Salah. Just a minute after coming on, Elliot scored the only goal of the game with his first touch. He was assisted by another substitute and under-scrutiny striker Darwin Nunez.
But the best player on the pitch was Liverpool keeper Alisson Becker. The Brazil international had one of the best games of his career and was the difference maker for Arne Slot’s men. As per Sofascore, Alisson made a staggering nine saves in the game and prevented 2.26 Xg goals (expected goals). The 32-year-old keeper also had a match rating of 9.40, the highest of any player involved.
Andy Robertson makes a bold statement before PSG clash
PSG manager Luis Enrique rested eight players who started the game against Liverpool for his side’s 1-4 win against Rennes. This was done so that the key players could be fresh ahead of the crucial second-leg game against the Reds at Anfield.
However, Liverpool left-back Andy Robertson spoke about his side’s confidence going into the second leg in his post-match press conference following a routine win against Southampton.
As transcribed by The Liverpool Echo, the 30-year-old said,
“The league is more competitive than the French league, that’s no disrespect to the French league. We have to keep going, there is no easy game in the Premier League. That’s two games now we have struggled against Southampton who are bottom of the league.”
Andy Robertson spoke about Liverpool's chances against PSG
Robertson also went on to add,
“It’s going to be a tough game. They showed how good they can be, an exceptional team – probably the best we have played this season. We have got the lead, which is important, but we can obviously play better than we did on Wednesday, that’s clear and we will have to play better as we can’t rely on Alisson playing the game of his life every game.”
