‘Says a lot’: Ian Wright says he can tell Mikel Arteta doesn’t rate £50m player after what he did vs Man Utd

Arsenal drew 1-1 with Manchester United at the weekend, and, once again, the Gunners’ lack of attacking depth was a main point of conversation.

Indeed, Arsenal only managed to score once against United, and that goal came from one of their midfielders rather than one of their attackers.

Ethan Nwaneri was criticised after the game, while Martin Odegaard struggled to create much again.

Odegaard has been seriously criticised as of late, but it could be worse, he could be in Raheem Sterling’s shoes.

Sterling was left on the bench against United, and speaking on the Kelly and Wrighty Show, Ian Wright believes that the decision to not bring Sterling on speaks volumes about how the manager views the £50m man.

Ian Wright says Mikel Arteta’s Raheem Sterling decision speaks volumes

Wright spoke about Arteta’s decision to not bring Sterling on.

The pundit says that Arteta’s decision against United tells you all you need to know about how Sterling is viewed right now.

Sterling has been out of sorts all season long, and it would appear he’s now way down the pecking order at Arsenal.

“It was a shame that you didn’t see someone like Raheem Sterling come off the bench, they put on Kieran Tierney instead and that says a lot about what he thinks of that situation,”

“It really felt like a resignation yesterday, this team need to find something to keep going and watch their backs now, because it’s Liverpool’s.”

Raheem Sterling stats for Arsenal

It would appear as though Mikel Arteta has lost all faith in Raheem Sterling, and, sadly, it’s hard to blame the manager for not fancying Sterling.

Indeed, Sterling has done very little to install any sort of faith in him this season.

At his best, Sterling was an attacker who could get 20 goals a season, but, this year, he’s been way off his best, and the stats show it.

Sterling has been doing some good work behind the scenes when it comes to mentoring young players and working hard in training, but there’s only so much value you can attach to that sort of thing.

Indeed, Sterling’s performances on the pitch, quite simply, haven’t been up to scratch, and it’s hard to see him getting much of a sniff at Arsenal between now and the end of the season.
