Premier League star'better than Martin Odegaard'told why he should snub Man Utd transfer

Mikkel Damsgaard

Paul Parker has urged Mikkel Damsgaard to avoid a move to Manchester United

Brentford star Mikkel Damsgaard has been urged to snub a move to Manchester United by ex-Red Devils star Paul Parker, who says the Danish star should "hesitate" over a move to Old Trafford.

Damsgaard has been one of the Premier League's unsung heroes this season with some fantastic creative displays in midfield that have gone under the radar.

The 24-year-old has scored three goals and assisted ten in the top flight under Thomas Frank this season, including three assists in his last six games, and heads are starting to turn ahead of an expected transfer tug-of-war this summer.

His performances have led to speculation United could make a move for him at the end of the season but former player Parker - who featured more than 100 times for the club between 1991 and 1996 - urged him not to join Ruben Amorim's men.

Instead, he suggested Damsgaard could join Arsenal - after claiming he was having a much better season than their chief playmaker Martin Odegaard.

"I can definitely understand if clubs are lining up to sign him," he told Spilxperten. "Arsenal could really use a creative player like him. He has been significantly better than Odegaard this season, and the rest of their midfield is nowhere near creative enough."

Parker admitted Damsgaard would be a good fit for United and suggested he could push further forwards, allowing Bruno Fernandes to drop slightly deeper - but said he should "stay far away" from the club, calling them "Circus United" amid their turbulent season that has seen them fall to 14th in the Premier League.

"Manchester United could also use him in the attacking midfield role, and he would obviously go straight into the starting lineup. Garnacho and Zirkzee have played that position a lot, but they are downright useless. Fernandes is the only creative midfielder, and he would link up well with Damsgaard. Maybe Fernandes could even drop deeper so that Fernandes, Damsgaard, and Amad could all be on the pitch at the same time.”

"If I were Damsgaard, though, I would really hesitate before signing with Manchester United. He can just ask his Danish friends if they enjoy being at the club. They would probably say no and advise him to stay far away from ‘Circus United.’”

Damsgaard has made 86 appearances for Brentford since joining from Serie A side Sampdoria for around £12.5million in 2022, scoring three times so far.

He turned heads during some excellent displays at Euro 2020, where he scored twice for Denmark to help them reach the semi-finals before he netted a free kick in the 2-1 defeat to England.
