The latest Arsenal transfer news and rumours

After another disappointing Premier League result, Arsenal have now slipped 15 points behind runaway leaders Liverpool. Their draw against a struggling Manchester United marked their third league match without a win, as injuries continue to affect the squad.

Mikel Arteta is currently without crucial attacking players Bukayo Saka and Kai Havertz, while Gabriel Jesus is also out for the season after suffering an ACL injury in January.

Former Manchester United chief scout Mick Brown has backed Arsenal to turn to the summer transfer to make some significant moves, with the 2025/26 Premier League title their firm mission.

A number of exciting players have been linked with an Emirates move recently and Brown has revealed that Newcastle United’s midfield star Bruno Guimaraes is someone the Gunners ‘have been considering’.

Arsenal interested in Bruno Guimaraes

Speaking to Football Insider, Brown, who remains well-connected in the game, discussed how the concerns over profitability and sustainability rules at St James’ Park could force Newcastle’s hand into selling some key players.

The Magpies were in a similar situation only recently, with Guimaraes named as a potential casualty of the chopping block. It was reported last year that Newcastle were looking to potentially sell the Brazilian but only if their £100 million asking price was met.

““Bruno Guimaraes is one Arsenal have been considering. The PSR issues at Newcastle could play a part if they are still struggling to spend money. On paper, Newcastle do not want to lose any of their top players this summer, they want to keep them at the club and build around them to become a top side,” Brown said.

“But if they’re limited in their spending, they won’t be able to build around those players. If it means cashing in on a major player to strengthen the rest of their squad, they could be forced into it. In any case though, it would take a lot of money to get a deal done.

“Guimaraes is one of those players who would fit into most teams in the country. He would slot in nicely alongside Declan Rice at Arsenal, who I think is a Rolls Royce, and create a really formidable midfield. They’re going to be looking to win the league next year and that would provide some solid foundations on top of what is a really good defensive unit.“

Arsenal rivalled in Guimaraes interest

Naturally, Arsenal aren’t the only club interested in signing a midfield powerhouse like Guimaraes. The 27-year-old has been a hot topic since last summer, with plenty of sides rumoured to be keen on bringing him in.

During the latter months of 2024, Manchester City were heavily linked with the Magpies star. Pep Guardiola’s side have been left seriously exposed this season in the absence of Rodri, and another report from Mick Brown suggested City were looking to table a significant offer in attempt to convince Newcastle to part ways with their midfield gem.

Taking on the role as captain, Guimaraes has been an almost ever-present figure in Eddie Howe’s starting line-ups this season and has contributed three goals and eight assists in all competitions so far. The midfielder was also responsible for Newcastle’s latest win over West Ham, banking a valuable three points in their pursuit of a top four finish.
