Steelers Possible Free Agent QB Target Falls Off the Board

The Pittsburgh Steelers are still looking for a quarterback.

Amid rumors of Aaron Rodgers coming to town, the Steelers are still looking for one, possibly two if they're going to gamble on a young signal-caller with the No. 21 overall pick or later next month.

Pittsburgh has been linked to a number of veteran free agents, and that list continues to grow smaller and smaller as they commit to signing elsewhere ahead of Wednesday's start of free agency.

Justin Fields is going to New York, Sam Darnold is headed to Seattle, Zach Wilson will sign in Miami, and now former Giants quarterback Daniel Jones is off the market too after agreeing to a deal with the Colts.

That leaves names like Trey Lance, Jacoby Brissett, Taylor Heinicke, Joe Flacco, Mac Jones, Mason Rudolph and Marcus Mariota, as well as a host of others available on the open market.

Jones would've been an inexpensive option until, as Adam Schefter reports, he agreed to a one-year, $14 million deal to compete with Anthony Richardson for the starting job in Indy.

Had Jones signed in Pittsburgh, he would automatically be the favorite to win the starting job against any rookie that comes to town.

Jones made 10 starts for the Giants last season before being cut. During that time he passed for 2,070 yards, eight touchdowns and seven interceptions while completing 63.3 percent of his passes.

After Jones' departure from New York, it became abundantly clear that he was not the problem. He joined the Vikings as a backup to Darnold late in the season and was available in free agency until Tuesday.
