There promises to be big changes on the Manchester football this scene this summer: at both Man City and Man United.
At Manchester City, a summer rebuild beckons with Pep Guardiola primed to clear the decks and reset, after what’s been a rather dismal 2024/25 season so far with his side sitting in 5th place of the Premier League table.
Last time out, Man City lost 1-0 at Nottingham Forest in a defeat that summed up their season so far. City have been slow and leggy throughout, and certain names are tipped to move on in the summer as City look to bring their average squad age down.
John Stones is up for sale and the likes of Kevin De Bruyne and Jack Grealish could also leave as part of the overhaul, with midfield looking like the department set for the most changes at the Etihad.
Meanwhile at Old Trafford, Manchester United are making plans to move away from their home ground with plans to build a new 100,000-seater stadium, costing a reported £2billion.
They too look set for a summer rebuild to the playing squad, and it turns out that Guardiola and Ruben Amorim are both keen on the same player.

Man United join race for Man City target Adam Wharton
Before the January transfer window, Adam Wharton was mentioned alongside a move to the Etihad. City wanted to bring Wharton to Manchester after his impressive start to life at Crystal Palace, following on from his £18million move from Blackburn Rovers in 2024.
Recent reports have now revealed that Man City have been making checks on Wharton ahead of the summer transfer window, sending scouts to watch the 21-year-old England international in action.
But a subsequent report from TeamTalk has now revealed that Manchester United also have Wharton on their summer shortlist. Amorim is thought to view Wharton as a midfield replacement of his own with United having also made checks on the Palace man in recent weeks.

Harry Kane thinks Adam Wharton is destined for big things
Wharton has taken the Premier League by storm since arriving at Selhurst Park last year. He’s wasted no time in settling in and his call up to the England Euro 2024 side under Gareth Southgate was a testament to how quickly he’s progressing.
So far this season, Wharton has featured 13 times in the Premier League with injury having had an impact on his campaign. But that’s not stopped interest from growing.
And speaking in 2024, after seeing Wharton in action with England, Three Lions captain Harry Kane tipped Wharton as one to watch for in 2025 and beyond.
With more and more teams joining the race for the £70million-rated youngster, it could quickly become an overpriced move. But that might not matter to either City or United who both are desperate to get back on track.
