Jamie Carragher requested Liverpool to sign a player ‘every other club has’ - Arne Slot may now have found him in…

The summer transfer market looks set to be a busy one for Liverpool.

The Reds have been arguably the best team in Europe this season as the Merseyside club sit comfortably at the top of the Premier League and are also in contention to win a treble.

In order to maintain that, Arne Slot will need to add players to his squad, with a striker, a left-back, a midfielder and a centre-back all on the agenda ahead of the 2025/26 campaign.

Alexander Isak is the name every Liverpool fan wants to see arrive at Anfield this summer, while Milos Kerkez is the man the Reds are tracking to be the long-term successor of Andy Robertson.

When it comes to a centre-back, Jamie Carragher made a request in January and Liverpool may be about to take the Sky Sports pundit’s advice this summer.

Liverpool monitoring Nico Schlotterbeck ahead of the summer

The future of Virgil van Dijk remains up in the air at Liverpool as the Reds captain is out of contract at Anfield at the end of the season and a new deal has yet to be announced.

The Merseyside club expect the Dutch star to put pen to paper on a new deal but that has not stopped the Premier League leaders from searching for his successor.

According to BILD’s Christian Falk, Liverpool have added Borussia Dortmund star Nico Schlotterbeck to their transfer list as the Reds believe the German star could be the long-term solution for the left centre-back position at Anfield.

Dortmund are keen to keep the defender In Germany and the Bundesliga outfit are hoping he signs a new contract as his current deal expires in 2027.

The arrival of Schlotterbeck would go down well with Carragher after the Sky Sports pundit called for Liverpool to make the transfer this year

Jamie Carragher wants Liverpool to sign a left-sided defender

A common trend amongst the top clubs in the Premier League is that they all have a left-sided defender who can play as a centre-back and as a left-back.

Speaking on Stick to Football back in January, Carragher noted that Liverpool are the only ‘Big Six’ Premier League side without this type of player ‘every other club has’.

Carragher requested Liverpool to bring one in during the January window and having opted not to it then, the Premier League leaders look like they may address the issue over the summer.

Schlotterbeck is an interesting option as the German centre-back is very talented and good with the ball at his feet, however, the 25-year-old is prone to making errors.

Ajax’s Jorrell Hato is another option for Liverpool to add this profile of player to Slot’s squad but it remains to be seen if the Merseyside club make an official move.

What is clear is that Liverpool are trying to address this role in their squad and that will go down well with Carragher.
