Tottenham striker sends message after his injury return

Dominic Solanke played the full 90 minutes against Bournemouth on Sunday after returning from injury

Tottenham Hotspur showed great character and fight to come from 2-0 down to pinch a point against Bournemouth at home in the Premier League on Sunday.

Despite the fightback, Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher was critical of Pedro Porro, while Cristian Romero looked rusty in his first appearance after returning from a quad injury that had sidelined him for almost three months. Fans were not impressed either as it was still a lacklustre display and on any other day, the game would have ended in Bournemouth’s favour.

Meanwhile, Dominic Solanke completed 90 minutes against Bournemouth after initially being deemed as doubtful for the game. The England international missed 10 games with a knee injury before returning against AZ Alkmaar in the first leg of the Europa League last-16 tie last week. He came on as a substitute with Spurs chasing the game but was forced off with an injury to his back.

Fortunately, it only turned out to be a small knock as Dominic Solanke recovered in time to face his former employers and complete the full game on Sunday. After the game, the centre-forward took to his personal Instagram account to express his feelings after making his return from injury. He posted a series of pictures from the draw with Bournemouth with the caption: “Felt good to be back out there again yesterday after a while. All focus now on Thursday”.

The 27-year-old had been sidelined since mid-January due to a knee injury. The Englishman has scored 11 goals and registered six assists in 31 appearances across all competitions this season, with seven of his goals coming in the Premier League. Spurs’ injury crisis is starting to finally ease, with Solanke returning alongside first-choice centre-back pairing Cristian Romero and Micky Van de Ven.

Having Solanke back fit is a big boost for Ange Postecoglou, whose side have lacked a presence up top since he suffered a knee problem in January. Mathys Tel is not quite ready to lead the Spurs attack while Son Heung-min’s better performances this season have come off the left.

Dominic Solanke’s injury had come at the wrong time for Tottenham Hotspur.

Solanke spearheading the attack allows Big Ange to either play Son or Tel on the left flank, with Brennan Johnson operating from the right. If he prefers to go with Son off the left, Tel’s pace, running power and flair off the bench against tiring defenders would be such a weapon to have. So, Solanke is basically the glue in attack that binds everyone together.
