William Saliba has insisted he wants to win big trophies with Arsenal, as his contract with the club starts to become a talking point.

Arsenal centre-back William Saliba remains a key player for the club in 2024/25, playing 38 times and starting 37 of those matches. The one time he came off the bench was the League Cup quarter-final, with Arsenal 1-0 down at half-time.
Saliba’s current deal in north London lasts until 2027, but it’s clear that at 23 years old, Arsenal will want to keep him around for quite a lot longer.
Even so, the French international suggested he hasn’t yet held contract talks with the club.

“Not yet, because there is some years (left), so there is no rush at the minute,” Saliba said on Tuesday.
“I’m really happy here for two years, and loved as well. There is nothing (else to say), I’m happy here and I want to continue here.
“I want to win big things with Arsenal. If you leave this club without winning anything the fans will forget about you. I want to win big things here.”

That will be music to Arsenal fans’ ears. It feels like the club are close to the big trophies, but the team are still clearly missing a few pieces to really reach the top. If Saliba leaves, that likely only adds to the problems to solve.
Saliba is right to point out that you generally only earn legendary status at a club by winning trophies first. If Arsenal fail to win anything and the centre-back left for Real Madrid this summer, the supporters would justifiably suggest he’d let them down.
Thankfully, it seems the defender is well aware of that fact, and he plans to ensure he doesn’t leave the club empty handed.
