Former Manchester United player Wayne Rooney wants Arsenal to hijack move of Jean-Philippe Mateta from his former side.
Jean-Philippe Mateta to the Gunners?
Wayne Rooney thinks **Arsenal**should try to seize **Man Utd**‘s move for Crystal Palace’s Jean-Philippe Mateta. He has been linked with a move to the Red Devils in the summer. He has been impressive in the Premier League this season.
The 27-years-old joined the English club from Bundesliga side Mainz in 2022. He had two not so good campaigns at Selhurst Park. But he has managed to impress over the last two seasons. He has 34 goals in all competitions so far in the Palace colors. In spite of his great form, he could be available for just £40 million as per some reports.
As per reports, last week Ruben Amorim’s side had held talks to sign the France international. And the player is also open to playing at the Old Trafford. Amorim must be looking to sign some striker to solve their attacking issues. They have been seen struggling in front of goal a lot this season.
Rooney recommends Arsenal a solution for their striker issues
Red Devils and England legend Rooney has been praising Mateta from a long time. He thinks that the Gunners should be looking to sign the forward. Wayne believes that he could be their answer for the attacking crisis they’re facing this campaign.
The north London side failed to make any new center-forward signings in the winter transfer window. With additional injury issues at the Emirates Stadium has got Mikel Arteta into deep trouble. They are currently fifteen points behind the league leaders Liverpool.
Fans will be expecting that Arteta will bring in a new attacker in the summer. While Rooney suggests the Frenchman could be their solution.
Talking to BBC Sport the ex-England player said: “Jean-Philippe Mateta is a big, strong lad who scores a lot of goals.
“From watching Arsenal over the past few games in the Premier League, they have put a lot of balls into the box without having anyone to get on the end of them. I am sure he would help from that point of view.”
