The New York Jets understood that when free agency began, they would have to say goodbye to many key starters over the last few years. When that happened, positions that weren't thought to be major areas of concern suddenly became major issues.
Take the right tackle position.
Morgan Moses was extremely serviceable during his year back with the Jets despite battling multiple leg injuries throughout the season. He may have played in 14 games, but he continued to be the kind of leader New York is always looking for.
Now, he's not even a part of the Jets, but looking to help one of the biggest rivals move past New York.
The New England Patriots signed Moses in the first hours of free agency Monday to a three-year contract worth over $24 million. At 34 years old, the contract came as a surprise to some that Moses was even offered a contract that would pay him when he turned 37 and well past his expiration in the league.
There's a flip side to the coin of letting Moses walk for New York.

On the one hand, the loss means that the team only needs to address one position of need along the offensive line this upcoming offseason and can fill that void with a draft pick or a value free agent signing.
The downside, though, is that Moses was an excellent leader and veteran player who could provide important experience to younger players along the line. Having a glaring hole on the offensive line with no can't miss prospect to replace that position with isn't a great problem to have.
The Jets will address the offensive line hole left by Moses. And while they were right to let him walk, that doesn't make his departure any less meaningful at this point.
