AFC East Winners and Losers in Big Start To Free Agency

It's been a busy start for the AFC East to open 2025 NFL free agency.

Some teams like the New York Jets and New England Patriots used their large cash supplies to bolster the roster with top free agent signings at areas of concern. Others like the Buffalo Bills used it to add value to a talented group.

The Miami Dolphins, meanwhile, are hoping to not lose any key player on their roster.

As the first day of free agency draws to a close, it's time to take a look at who has come out looking strong, and who is in danger along the division.

Winner and losers? Let's do the analysis ...

New England Patriots

New England is a big winner on the first day of free agency. Milton Williams was the top defensive tackle available and they addressed other needs on the defense with Carlton Davis leading the way at corner. The Patriots must address their needs on offense, but they have spent the big bucks on top free agents in the hopes of speeding up their rebuild.

New York Jets

New York addressed their need at quarterback and cornerback on the first day of free agency. They have plenty more needs to figure out but Justin Fields and Brandon Stephens are two solid options at this point.

Still plenty of work to do, though.

Buffalo Bills

Josh Palmer was considered a sleeper free agent signing for Buffalo and should fit nicely into their passing game plans. Michael Hoecht is an excellent value pickup for Buffalo along the defensive line as well as they look to replace Von Miller.

All in all, it was a strong start to free agency for the defending division champs.

Miami Dolphins

Congrats to the Dolphins for signing Zach Wilson to a backup quarterback deal but that won't be enough to change the plethora of needs the team needs to figure out. James Daniels is a solid offensive line option but they have plenty of other holes to work through.
