Johnson first signed with Saints as an undrafted free agent in April 2020 following the NFL Draft. He signed a two-year contract extension in 2023. In 2024, Johnson had the best season of his career with 50 receptions for 548 years and 3 TDs.

There were rumors that Johnson could join former Saints head coach Sean Payton with the Denver Broncos and the Saints would have faced a $6.5 million cap hit if Johnson had signed elsewhere but his new deal will now keep him in New Orleans through the 2027 season.
