Currently, the Hoops are 16 points clear at the top of the table and are on course to win yet another league title.
Discussing the current situation at Ibrox on PLZ Soccer, McManus said at 25:18: “It’s up to Rangers. Investment possibly coming in. It’s up to them to go and buy and progress and get better and get closer to Celtic, because at the minute, Celtic are miles ahead.”
Leeds United stint has proven that San Francisco 49ers can handle the challenges
McManus’ verdict underscores the challenge facing the club as the San Francisco 49ers, led by Marathe, prepare to take a majority stake in the club.
To close the gap with Celtic, the 49ers can adopt a multi-step strategy to rectify Rangers’ shortcomings.
First, they should inject significant capital to overhaul the squad, targeting high-quality players who can compete with Celtic’s stars, addressing McManus’ call for better recruitment.
Leveraging their data-driven expertise from Leeds United, they can refine scouting and player development, ensuring smarter signings.
Second, upgrades at Ibrox, such as the planned capacity increase to 60,000, will boost matchday revenue, providing more financial muscle.

Third, appointing a strong manager by replacing interim boss Barry Ferguson with a proven tactician could instill discipline and a winning mentality, correcting years of inconsistency.
Finally, the 49ers must streamline off-field operations, reducing debt and fostering a unified boardroom vision, as the current fractured ownership has hindered progress.
While it seems a lengthy process, the 49ers’ track record with Leeds suggests they can accelerate this turnaround by combining financial clout with strategic acumen, gradually bridging the gap with Celtic through sustained, intelligent investment.
